Making a
scrapbook can sometimes feel like an overwhelming project. It
shouldn't! Here are a few simple steps to help you get started:
First, gather and
organize your photos.
This may be the most time
consuming part of your project. To save time just organize for one
book at a time. For instance, if you are starting with a baby book,
just gather and organize all of your baby photos. Scrapbooks are not
for every picture you've ever taken (that's what albums are for).
Search through the photos and pick the best and cutest pictures to
use. You'll know them when you see them. If you don't have the time
to get all of your photos in order, just make piles of pictures:
Photos you want to use and those you don't. Then just keep narrowing
down until you have the ones you plan on using and then put those in
chronological order. Keep some of the "maybes" around in case you
need some as filler pictures.
Next, gather the
supplies you will need.
This can be very simple or very elaborate, it's up to you! Basic supplies include: Card stock paper, patterned paper, adhesives, a
binder, page protectors and some decorations (die-cuts or stickers).
A customized theme
kit will give you everything you really NEED, except a
trimmer. If this is your first scrapbook I would recommend buying a basic
supplies kit as well. I can't say enough about how
important it is to have a trimmer. You can get away with not having
all kinds of scissors, circle and oval cutters, pens and punches,
etc., but a trimmer is a must!! Once you've got the basics and decide
you want to do more elaborate things you can move on to the more
specialized equipment.
Next, start laying out
pages. I usually
do a few at a time before I actually glue anything, but I have also
laid out the entire book before making anything permanent. You
will be able to get a feel for when a "section" is complete and can
probably be set. If you feel you have no creative ability at
all, there are hundreds of layout ideas on the internet. Everyone's style is different, so
find one that you like and begin.
